2012 Euro Championship Mascots

Every championship has its mascots. It was historically established in 1980 by Italy and since then it is a grand opportunity for creative people to choose the main logotype and talisman for 2012 EURO football championship.Official logotype and visual identic of EURO 2012 football championship was presented in October 14, 2009 in Kyiv by UEFA president Michel Platini.

Logotype was created by Portuguese designer Elder Pombino. It is a flower that has three branches: football ball and two flowers which were done in an ancient Slavic décor technic- “Vytynanka” (traditional pattern cut out a paper).

Elder Pombino said that the logotype for 2012 EURO championship was ready a half year before its presentation. The process from idea search to evocation took almost a year. Firstly Michel Platini and the president of FFU Gregoryi Surkis were surprised but when they find out the history of a brand creation they accepted it.

The main idea is to unite two countries’ symbols in one. Poland and Ukraine has differences in their cultures and if to create two separate symbols it would have been worse. The colors were chosen after the designer saw “vytynanka” that according to his words has no analogues. He wanted to attract female’s attention to football that is why the colors are so bright and unusual. Altogether the logotype of European championship 2012 presents white-red flag of Poland (the left flower), the right yellow-blue flower which represents Ukraine and the central ball is yellow-white which is a combination of two countries.

European championship 2012 will be held under the motto “Creating history together”. The upcoming tournament will go down to the history as the first championship of the Old World that was held on the territory of the Central and Eastern Europe. Together with players and fans, organizations, countries and host cities will have to write another page to the history of the legendary game.

Ukraine and Poland also have its national football symbols that were done for the EURO 2012. According to the success of Tricks and Fliks that represented Austria and Switzerland that hosted EURO in 2008, Ukraine and Poland created their Slavic and Slavko. Two brothers are dressed in the national team costumes of the hosting countries.

Moreover, Adidas Company created a unique ball for the EURO 2012 football championship. Tango 12 is a 6th model of a kind, the first one appeared on a World Cup in 1978 in Argentina. Tango 12 is the continuation of the evolution of the World Cup ball “Jabualani”. The Designer used the signature technology of seam welding that positively affects its geometric functions and water repellence. Constructively it consists of 20 panels, 5 triangular trapezes and 15 trapezes. One of the Know-how’s of the 2012 EURO ball is that it has aero lines that divide the ball into panels that is called to increase the constant of friction in control of the ball.

Besides the EURO 2012 host countries logotypes designers made symbols of all EURO 2012 host stadiums, cities and participating countries. Each of them has the same bright flower design.
