Kyiv is a main host-city for EURO 2012 that has the main stadium for the championship - NSC Olimpiyskiy. The stadium is believed to be the heart of EURO 2012 and the best stadium in Ukraine. This stadium is so important because it will host the most exciting event of the EURO- its final.
NSC Olimpiyskiy is a combination of a 90-years sport history of Ukraine and modern technologies. Together it formed a new symbol of the EURO 2012 football championship. The main difference between the NSC and other host stadiums in Ukraine is that it is multifunctional. It can be used not only for football matches but other athletics games and competitions.
The original stadium was built in 1936, the great opening was planned for April 22, 1941 but was opened only in 1946 because of the World War II and the interesting fact is that the survived people managed to keep their ticket till they could use it. This type of behavior is very typical for our Ukrainian people- they are truly faithful to the things they love.
And that is why the newborn NSC Olimpiyskiy is so important for Ukrainians who are very proud to be a part of the football history. In the year 2008 the stadium signed a contract with a German architectural company GMP von Gerkan, Marg und Partner. The company created a project of a new Olimpiyskiy that is similar to German Olympiastadion in Berlin. It is the largest stadium in Ukraine and Poland, it can place 70 050 people, has VIP seats and special seats for disabled people. A unique translucent roof is covering 100 % of the seats that are made of a special material that cannot be burned or moved.
UEFA estimated NSC Olimpiyskiy to „Elite“ class stadium which means high class of security from the entrance till the video monitoring on the stadium.
Arena was triumphantly opened in October 2012 by Michel Platini who said an encouriging and congratulating speech to Ukrainians. The great opening included fire show, performances of the famous Ukrainian and foreign singers like Ani Lorak and Shakira.
The first game on the field of the NSK Olimpiyskiy was played by the National Ukrainian Team against Germany which ended in a draw 3:3. It is also, an official stadium for the most prominent team in Kyiv Dynamo.
Today NSC Olimpiyskiy provides interesting excursions that allow any fan go to the most fascinating spots like changing rooms and gym of the real football stars. These excursions are always accompained by pretty and very proffessional guides that will tell you everything about the history and the football life of players. The most exciting moment of the excursion is when you go out to the field like a real footballer, this moment of glory will surely stay in your memory forever.
